Wynyard Gardens & Helmsley

Wynyard Garden

A new addition to our 2016 January to December day excursion brochure, today we visit the stunning Wynyard Gardens and the market town of Helmsley.

Situated in the quaint grounds of the striking four-star Wynyard Hall sit The Gardens, where we visit today. The Gardens were designed and built in 1822 for Lord Charles Stewart and his wife Francis Anne Vane-Tempest. The modern-day Garden has developed a unique display that, when in bloom, serve to paint a remarkable picture. The Gardens have over 3,000 roses and with the collection growing at a steady rate, it is set to be the biggest collection in the UK. Garden designer, William Sawrey Gilpin created the initial gardens using curved flowerbeds, raised terrace walks, irregularly shaped shrubberies, and winding paths to create beautiful images within the landscape. In addition to The Gardens, visitors will also have the option of an array of delightful dishes, cakes, pastries, and beverages - all in the new Visitor Centre. Also home to a farm shop, selling everything from freshly baked bread to delicious pasta sauces, pates, and relishes, along with a range of gifts, books, and a selection of stationary, Wynyard Gardens offers everything a great collective experience. Enjoy your cup of coffee and biscuit whilst looking onto the garden.

The market town of Helmsley is located in the Ryedale district of the Yorkshire Dales and can be an enjoyable process to get to as your provided with the opportunity to view some stunning Yorkshire scenery. Its not untrue to say that if you were to imagine the perfect English market town then Helmsley would be it. The town is also well versed in providing services for visitors and is renowned for its choice of shops, food and drink. For shopping, although you won't find any high-street stores, what you will find, is a unique atmosphere and character at every independent store you explore, a feel which resonates throughout the entire Market town.

1700 return back to the north east.

Travel the short ditance to Wynyard Hall and spend time in their beautiful Walled Garden and enjoy the views over a coffee and biscuit in the newly built coffee shop.
