Skipton/Grassington

Firstly today we visit Skipton and the town that acts as the gateway to the magnificent Yorkshire Dales. Steeped in history Skipton has its own castle some 900 years old, as well as cobbled streets and a ruined priory that all add to the atmosphere. In terms of food and drink Skipton has ample cafes, pubs and restaurants and the occasional tearoom for you to enjoy.

The high street should not go without a mention either and is well worth visiting. In the past Skipton has beat the likes of Portabello Road and Kensington High Street to win 'Britain's Best High Street of the Year' so you can be sure there is something for all tastes. A final gem that Skipton keeps hidden away is Craven Court, a Victorian themed shopping arcade. Praised by Prince Charles for its architecture, the beautiful painted ironwork and stunning clear glass roof make for a unique and enchanting shopping experience. As well as some popular High Street names, you'll also find more unusual shops selling everything from German woodcraft to silver jewellery.

For the next part of the day we take you to Grassingrton located in the Craven District of Yorkshire Dales and a only a short journey from Skipton. As is is the case with most small villages in the Dales, Grassington is a small quaint town that is surrounded by spectacular views that still maintain its historic, partial stone appearance. As well as offering victors friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs, Grassington also provides oppourtunities when the weather turns and the rain pours. A great place to see spectacular waterfalls, especially at Linton, this small Yorkshire village has a lot to offer tourists.
